To some Shea Hembrey might seem to have a case of multiple personality disorder, to others he is simply a genius. One thing’s for sure though, he is most definitely creative.

Shea knew that he wanted to produce his own biennial, which is typically a contemporary art show put together by a number of artists in two years time. He had certain “criteria” that he wanted fulfilled by these artists. Most of his criteria was developed after seeing some contemporary art shows in Europe that seemed too inaccessible. Shea wanted artists and non-artists alike to be able to grasp and appreciate the different works. It was after realizing this that he knew he would have to create every piece himself.

Shea developed 100 different “characters” or different artists that he embodied to create unique art. These artists came from all over the world and each had their own story. His inventiveness both in his art and in his stories is impressive.

To see the video of his story and to see some of his work, please click here.

Boston University student Natalie Turturro wants kids to know that “school opens doors,” and her method at getting out the message involves using her own education to do it.

For her thesis project, Turturro created an installation art exhibition at the non-profit Ellis Memorial Children’s Center, a settlement house in the South End of Boston that cares for children, disabled adults and families. The project depicts images of children flying around and away in outer space, an idea Turturro received from the children of Ellis Memorial.

“School gives you the tools to fly away wherever you want to and become whatever you want to be,” explained Turturro.

To watch a slideshow of pictures of Turturro’s art exhibition and find out more about how it came together, please click on the original story posted below, written by Anna Webster for BU Today.

When Brandeis University’s artist-in-residence Michael Dowling built it, people came. His installation “Source/ReSource” featuring a recurring stream of water being pumped into a large triangular pool outside the university’s Rose Art Museum was unveiled this May.

“I wanted to animate the space in front of the Rose and lead people to one of the sources of Brandeis power to inspire which is its art collection,” Dowling said. “I wanted to create a common pool where people can share a human moment in which everyone can co-exist.”

His idea for the installation was “to invite people who’ve already been [to the museum] to see it anew.” Dowling hopes to inspire people to go back to a place recognized from before and rediscover the feeling of wonder it once brought them.

About 250 students, faculty, alumnus and visitors attended Dowling’s installation unveiling. To read what people had to say about his art and Dowling’s other thoughts, please click on the story from Amesbury News’ Chris Bergeron that is posted below.

The New Hampshire Business Committee for the Arts is made up of local businesses that are committed to supporting the arts and striving to increase arts support within the business community. The non-profit organization believes a flourishing arts community improves the region’s quality of life and is good for businesses.

Howard Altschiller of the Seacoast Media Group and Portsmouth Herald attended a recent meeting of the Business Committee and learned how every business can help the arts without additional expense. A couple of ideas included renting a space at a theater, gallery or museum for company events, board meetings or holiday gatherings and encouraging employees to share their art by hosting company-wide exhibits and talent nights.
