Art Workshops Help Children Cope with Breast Cancer in the Family October 21, 2009

A group of Art Workshops have been started this month to help children express their emotions when dealing with  mothers or fathers who have gone through or are currently being treated for breast cancer.

“When a parent has breast cancer, it causes a big change in a child’s life,” said Dr. Michelle Schmidt, assistant professor of internal medicine at Baylor College of Medicine. “It is so hard for young children to deal with a situation of this magnitude – their developmental skills are not mature enough. If they are struggling with their emotions, they may not come right out and say it.”

Schmidt said children need a way to express themselves on a level that they understand. Art is a perfect form of communication for a child.

Your article Art Workshops Help Children Cope with Breast Cancer in the Family | Art in the Community made me stop and read it properly. I was just looking for stuff on breast cancer family and was skimming most of it but I did read your’s properly. Bits of it didn’t really gel with me but I appreciate that you took the time to write it so you care. That’s good enough for me!

I think it’s time that more teenage magazines took responsibility and covered more serious issues such as breast cancer family support.

There are some great shows on TV which cover subject such as breast cancer family support but most of us don’t have time to watch them so it’s good that we can find information like this on the net.

On Monday I spent some time thinking about breast cancer family support, so started doing some research into breast cancer family support. There’s so much information out there, but how do we make sure it’s getting to the people who really need it?

Our professor gave us a school assignment where we have to compose a song regarding life in general. I’m studying Art and Music in a college in our town and I’m really thrilled to start working on the project we were asked to do.
